Since 2004 Art Shanty Projects has created whimsical, weird and joyful winter art experiences for grown adults and kids of all ages. Inspired by pop-up ice fishing villages, artists use the frozen lake as a public platform to create a temporary, interactive, inclusive community. Over the course of a four-weekend winter art festival, visitors can engage with artists at their vibrant shanty structures, enjoy rotating performances (taiko drumming, opera, large puppets, theatre, singalongs and more!), and celebrate creativity in winter. It's the only festival like this in the world!
ASL interpreting and audio description are available every day of the festival from 11 am - 2 pm. Meet at the Welcome Shanty just inside the entrance gate to get connected with your guide. Accessible parking, a ramp to the surface of the frozen lake, and kicksleds aid transport to and throughout the village during all festival hours (including one that accommodates a wheelchair).
