About the Show

Jan. 12 - Feb. 4, 2024

A Classic Tragicomedy by Anton Chekhov adapted and directed by Craig Johnson

Set in a rural estate in Russia, this play explores the complicated relationships between a group of artists, including an aging actress; her lover, a famous writer; and her son, a struggling playwright. As dreams of greatness, artistic passion and languishing talent become tangled into their romantic affairs, the play raises deep questions about the nature of love, art and the human experience. This new adaptation captures all the humor and pathos of Chekhov’s classic play with a fresh tone for contemporary audiences.

Content Warning: Suicide. Run time: TBD.
Audio Described performance: Sunday, February 4, 2pm

About the Show

Jan. 27 - Feb. 11, 2024, 10 AM to 4 PM

CANCELLATION: Due to the warm weather the Art Shanty Projects had to shut down operations early this year and no activities were carried out after February 1.

Art Shanty Projects is a month-long outdoor public art event. Inspired by pop-up ice fishing villages, artists use the frozen lake (or nearby park, if the ice isn't thick enough) as a public platform to create a temporary, interactive community. Projects engage all senses, and include visual spectacle, music, dance, games, tactile experiences and more! Shanties are up all month long and activated during all open hours. Performances + Art Actions pop up throughout the village at scheduled times during the run: https://artshantyprojects.org/2024-schedule-of-performances-and-art-actions/. Activities take place Saturdays and Sundays from 10 AM to 4 PM. ASL and Audio Description are available from 11 AM to 2 PM.

Set in the 1590s, brothers Nick and Nigel Bottom are desperate to write a hit play but are stuck in the shadow of that Renaissance rock star known as "The Bard." When a local soothsayer foretells that the future of theatre involves singing, dancing and acting at the same time, Nick and Nigel set out to write the world’s very first musical. But amidst the scandalous excitement of opening night, the Bottom Brothers realize that reaching the top means being true to thine own self, and all that jazz.

About the Show

Feb. 2-10, 2024

Lyrics by Tim Rice, Music by Andrew Lloyd Webber

“Sha la la, Joseph, you’re doing fine! You and your dream coat, ahead of your time!” One of the most enduring shows of all time, Joseph is a reimagining of the Biblical story of Joseph, his father Jacob, eleven brothers and their wives, and the coat of many colors. Told entirely through song with the help of Narrator(s), the musical follows preferred son Joseph. After being sold into slavery by his brothers, he ingratiates himself with Egyptian noble Potiphar but ends up in jail after refusing the amorous advances of Potiphar’s wife. While imprisoned, Joseph discovers his ability to interpret dreams, and he soon finds himself in front of the mighty but troubled, Elvis-inspired, Pharaoh. Joseph’s solution to Egypt’s famine elevates him to Pharaoh’s right-hand man and reunites him with his family.
