About the Show

Jan. 27 - Feb. 11, 2024, 10 AM to 4 PM

CANCELLATION: Due to the warm weather the Art Shanty Projects had to shut down operations early this year and no activities were carried out after February 1.

Art Shanty Projects is a month-long outdoor public art event. Inspired by pop-up ice fishing villages, artists use the frozen lake (or nearby park, if the ice isn't thick enough) as a public platform to create a temporary, interactive community. Projects engage all senses, and include visual spectacle, music, dance, games, tactile experiences and more! Shanties are up all month long and activated during all open hours. Performances + Art Actions pop up throughout the village at scheduled times during the run: https://artshantyprojects.org/2024-schedule-of-performances-and-art-actions/. Activities take place Saturdays and Sundays from 10 AM to 4 PM. ASL and Audio Description are available from 11 AM to 2 PM.

About the Show

December 7, 2023–February 25, 2024

This group exhibition considers the ways disabled artists guide us forward through the present, and inevitably toward futures that prioritize and embrace all the complexities and joys of radical access and care.

The exhibition features recent works by Victoria Dugger, Ariella Granados, Aurora Levins Morales, Kelley Meister, and Lynda Mullan. This exhibition was curated by Drew Maude-Griffin as a culmination of their fellowship with the Emerging Curators Institute, a Twin Cities based groundbreaking initiative designed to support the individual practices of emerging curators from diverse backgrounds through an in-depth research, professional development, and presentation program.

At this open house from 1 to 3 PM, a discussion with curator Drew Maude-Griffin will take place 1:30 p.m. ASL interpretation will be available. Registration is encouraged.

About the Show

February 3 - March 3, 2024

David Petersen Gallery will exhibit an installation of ceramic artwork by Kramer Hegenbarth, a multidisciplinary artist who has practiced at Interact since 2017. With an exhibition entitled Flowering in the Dark, Hegenbarth’s work explores texture, fantasy and humor in his recent series of ceramic “Rock Monsters.” Riddled with spiky appendages, forked tongues, and caught saying “Aah,” works like Punk Rock and The Creep playfully toe the line between familiar forms and imaginary beasts. "These are very imaginative rock creatures," says Hegenbarth. "I was thinking about nature, like plants and animals, when I made them, and a little bit about Little Shop of Horrors (1986). They’re creepy-cute, and each one has its own personality. I like bright colors, the texture, and hardness and softness at the same time – like the teeth and stuff are really pointy, but the rocks are smooth." Hegenbarth has presented work in exhibitions throughout Minnesota, including at Interact Gallery, Gamut Gallery, and the Minnesota Museum of American Art. In addition to his visual art practice, Hegenbarth is also an active member of Interact's performing arts cast.

ACCESSIBILITY
David Petersen Gallery is located on the ground level of a store front. There is free street parking in front of the gallery on Cedar Avenue, as well as a wheelchair accessible space in the parking lot behind the gallery. An outdoor accessible portable restroom will be available for the event on Saturday, February 3 and during gallery hours (Friday - Sunday, 12 - 5 p.m. and by appointment) through February 11.

About the Show

Feb. 3, 2024

After rave reviews and extended engagements in Chicago, Toronto and Washington, D.C., this award-winning production is coming directly to you! Created and performed by the fearlessly funny women of The Second City, this high-octane show satirizes the complexities of identifying as female in this wild world while roasting the patriarchy with scorching sketch comedy, hilarious original songs, and whip-smart improv. Don’t miss your last chance to witness the show the Chicago Tribune calls “empowering entertainment” and the Chicago Sun-Times calls “One of the funniest revues Second City has produced in the past 20 Years.”
