About the Show

June 13, 2024

The Island of Discarded Women Live Show & Podcast is a LIVE variety show amplifying women's voices through powerful personal stories, captivating original music, empowering social commentary and an inspiring conversation with a special guest! In June the show is back in the Belvedere Tent at Crooners Supper Club for powerful Music, Stories & Conversation.

Special guest Rose McGee is the founder of the Sweet Potato Comfort Pie organization. Her ‘baketivism’ began in 2014 after she was inspired to deliver 30 hand-made sweet potato pies to those standing up for justice in Ferguson, MO. Since then, her organization has been delivering comfort pies around the country to those impacted by racial trauma with what Rose calls ‘the sacred dessert of Black culture.’

Musical guests Katy Vernon & her band Favourite Girl are proudly feminist and bold! This all-girl band +1, will be performing fresh new songs underscoring women empowerment that will bring you to your feet and have you dancing in the aisles! And British-born singer/songwriter Katy Vernon, the “ukulele songbird,” will sing two powerful solo tunes + share the beautiful stories that inspired them.

Guest storyteller Jen Santoro Rotty will bring a riveting, personal story about adoption, discovery and belonging. AND Island favorite Shanan Custer will be there, plus Host Sue Scott.

Doors open in the Belvedere Tent at 6:30pm for dinner & cocktails.
